ICC RESUMES ITS WAR ON ISRAEL

With the departure of the Trump administration in the United States the International Criminal Court, originally set up prosecute perpetrators of the Holocaust, has resumed its war on Israel, which is a political move. Under investigation are wars in which Israel was forced to defend itself against Palestinians who fired thousands of rockets at Israeli civilians. The Palestinians used Gaza’s main hospital as its military headquarters and used human shields and schools when firing rockets. Despite this, Israel went to extraordinary lengths to avoid civilian casualties on the enemy’s side. It is questionable whether the ICC has any ground for conducting this prosecution as the Palestinians, although self-governing, are not an official nation, Israel has already investigated all allegations with due process followed, and there was no deliberate targeting of civilians by the Israeli army. It also beggars belief that the ICC does not consider targeting of civilians, operating military attacks from hospitals and schools, and using human shields by the Palestinians as a crime. Furthermore, it totally ignores ethnic cleansing and human rights abuses by Turkey and other countries. By treating Israel by totally different standards than it treats others, the ICC’s actions can only be interpreted as being politically motivated and anti-Semitic.
