VIRUS HYSTERIA

Last week PD urged keeping the Corona virus outbreak in perspective. It now seems that panic has set in, leading to irrational behaviour in countries which are relatively safe and in which any outbreak is currently small and well controlled, with good quarantine measures and other precautions. PD is referring to the panic buying of toilet paper in Australia, stripping supermarket shelves bare of this, as well as tissues and hand sanitiser. It defies any logic as to why a fear of acquiring a respiratory infection would lead to hoarding of toilet paper. Even if subject to quarantine, this is for only two weeks, not a lifetime. One wonders with great worry how society would react should a real threat such as war was to occur.
