An antidote for racism and hate
Our world is once again sinking into identity politics and racism, fed by a diet of lies and hate. Even those preaching “anti-racism” are themselves racist and full of hate, though they may not see it that way. One problem is that people have stopped thinking and learning; finding out the truth for themselves. In schools we stopped learning how to learn, think clearly, and to evaluate and debate ideas.
The best antidote to this is to really listen. Most people hear, formulating what they will say when the other person stops talking, rather than listening to what they are saying. Worse, the left has totally shut down debate by shouting down any views that oppose its own.
We will only overcome this when we really listen to the other side and get to know each other. Put ourselves in their shoes. At the end we may not agree with them, but by hearing them out and being heard ourselves we can find common ground. Taking this even one step further, we should try debating with each side arguing for the view of the other side.
Unfortunately PD suspects that many of the haters do not want to find common ground; they want to be angry and to be “right” even when they are wrong.
